Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable has been disqualified from Headies Award nomination by the organising board following his recent menacing behaviour.
The disqualification came after Portable made a self-indicting statement about being the instigator of several criminal organisations.
So, the organising board of the Headies Award therefore has decided to withdraw Portable’s 2022 nominations.
Recall that Portable was nominated in two categories; The Rookie of The Year and The Best Street Artist of The Year.
Portable rose to fame with the release of Zazu Zeh featuring Olamide in late 2021. Since then, he has been trending.
But, recently during the just concluded Osun state gubernatorial election, Portable was seen in a viral social media video ranting about being the founder of Lagos gang and cult group ‘1 million boys’.
Although the police invited Portable for questioning, but not much has came out since then.
Meanwhile, the Headies has released an official statement to disqualify the Zazu crooner.
Released on Tuesday, July 26, the part of the statement read;
“
We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards. Being subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, Mr Habeeb Okikiola is hereby disqualified from both categories of awards at the forthcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards scheduled to hold later this year.
The decision to disqualify Mr. Okikiola is accentuated by series of misdemeanours by Mr Okikiola via his social media platforms. On the 25th of May 2022, he threatened to kill, harm or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of awards he was nominated for, if he does not emerge the winner…
However, Portable has reacted to the development on his Instagram stories, saying he has money, wife, car, house, and that he doesn’t regret his actions.
