Alleged kidnapping kingpin Elias Igboayaka Dikeigbo was arrested in Orlu on Saturday. Dikeigbo was said to be the SA on Motor parks, Orlu zone to the immediate past Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, according to a source.

His capture followed a tip-off to the local vigilante group, leading to the detention of his gang members who identified him as their leader. Elias, implicated in several criminal activities and long wanted by police, the source said.

Elias, who serves as the Community Youth Leader of his town, has been implicated in several criminal activities in Orlu and surrounding areas. He has been on the police wanted list for numerous armed robbery operations, including a recent kidnapping and the diversion of a truck loaded with stockfish.

He went into hiding, during which time his wife and some kinsmen were arrested and taken to Awka in Anambra State, the source said.

Elias, who has no visible legitimate business, is suspected of acquiring properties through the proceeds of illegal and criminal activities. Many in the area, including his family members and traditional rulers, were aware of his dubious lifestyle but were too afraid to speak out.

Upon the arrest of his associates, they freely confessed and named Elias as their leader. Police sources stated that the suspects would be further interrogated by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Owerri to determine their involvement in various criminal activities in the area, particularly kidnappings.

Local residents expressed relief and gratitude to both the vigilante group and the police for their efforts, while urging authorities not to release Elias back into society, as has happened in the past.
