Yemi Alade, a Nigerian Afropop musician and her music crew have been denied Canadian visa over fears that she and her crew may not leave the country after their performance.
The Nigerian Afropop singer is said to be one of the headliners of the Festival international Nuits d’Afrique.
Meanwhile, LEDEVOIR reported that Yemi Alade won’t be performing at a Festival’s final closing ceremony slated for Sunday.
LEDEVOIR is a French Newspaper which is published and distributed in Canada.
While commenting on the situation, Suzanne Rousseau, the festival co-founder said the visa denial was due to financial reasons, and for fears that the group wouldn’t leave Canada.
“
Finally, we got an answer saying the musicians were refused, saying they have to guarantee that they have enough financial means that will make them go back to their country,” she said.
Suzannne also stated that Yemi’s absence would be replaced with Sampa The Great; a Zambian born, Australia based singer.
On that, Yemi has expressed her disappointment in her recent tweet;
“
I’m so sad ! I will not be headlining the Festival in Montreal as announced for July 24th .I’m trully sorry. TILL NEXT TIME Canada”, Yemi tweeted.
